Best sharpener

I’m new to the knife sharpening world and I believe it’s the best sharpener you can get for a beginner. Snaps together and soon enough you’ll have a sharp knife in minutes.

Easy to use

I bought this from Academy, and it's so straight forward and easy to use, all parts are replaceable. Fully recommend this knife sharpener. I looked at the belt sharpener and thought replacing the belts sounds expensive over time and chose this one instead. Super happy with the results of sharpening my first few knives on it!

It's AMAZING!!!

I'm new to the knife collecting hobby. I have a CobraTec Lightweight OTF knife with a Tanto blade and I wanted to sharpen it. I bought a Smith's handheld sharpener, which was kinda ok-ish. I still wanted something better that was easy to use and worked well.

After some research, my brother suggested a guided system. I checked Amazon and I found the Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener.

It was easy to set up, but at first I was not getting the edge I wanted. I did a bit of research, read the instructions (I know, right?) and I saw a demo video done by Work Sharp shiwing how to do the proper sharpening process.

The sharpener worked amazingly! I have a razor sharp Tanto Blade with different angle for the body and the tip of the blade. I also sharpened a Cabela's foldable pocket knife and it was also amazing!

I recommend this awesome product. It works great!

Awesome

I have tried different sharpeners over the years and this far by the easiest to use, watched a couple of YouTube videos and was sharpening like a pro, I did one little modification to the sharpener.

Even a beginner sharpener like me can use it.

I've tried many sharpeners on my kitchen knives. The expensive ones from the expensive stores. The medium priced ones from the outdoors stores. I could not get a good blade with any of them. I thought it was me.

I have a field sharpener for my pocket knife from Work Sharp and saw a review from a famous Youtuber on the expensive(r) version of this. I bought this one on a flier. I started with my dullest blade, a gift that I got as a wedding present 27 years ago. I must have tried to sharpen it dozens of times to no avail. So I put it in the Worksharp Precision Adjust and began with the coarsest stone at 20 degrees. It took a bit to shape the blade; my hands aren't so good with feeling a burr, so I had to "wing it" based upon some of the Work Sharp videos repeating on each side with the same number of strokes, decreasing the number as I went. I finally got to a decent blade shape and went to the finer grit stone. After a few minutes on the finer grit, the knife cut through paper with ease. I polished it with the ceramic and it cuts very well.

This review is not without a con, however. That little grommet on the end of the slide rod must have popped off a dozen times, reminiscent of those little "Jesus" clips you find on motorcycles and cars. Something removable but a bit more permanent would be a welcome change.

This system is fantastic.

I had recently purchased one of these sharpening systems on a whim after watching a review of it on Neeves Knives on YouTube. I use diamond stones to hand sharpen, and I also used to have the original knife and tool sharpener. Unfortunately the motor stopped working after five years and it was honorably retired. I was looking for a newer system to sharpen my EDC, FIeld, and Kitchen Knives and this system in the few short days I have had it, has put edges on my knives I only ever dreamed of!!!!

There are only TWO things that I think Work Sharp could do to improve on this system a little bit more.
#1 to include a support that you could put under the mounting arm to reduce some of the flex (yes I know there are aftermarket supports) but this should be something that comes standard.
#2 MORE STONES!!!! The stones included and for the upgrade certainly do work, but making more stones available for this system would send it into the stratosphere with the sharpening options!!!

Otherwise, this thing is well worth the money and has already paid for itself.

Not without a few minor faults but fantastic value

I have had one of these for a year now and it does a great job of keeping my Japanese cooking knives very sharp. It is easy to use and great vaue and just works really well. What I particually like is how easy it is to swap between grit plates and to flip the knife over. It is not without a few minor faults; it does not work that well with narrow blades, the grit plates are also quite narrow which can make getting an even edge on the blade a challenge. I have also lost one of the rubber feet on the device which causes it to wobble a bit. These are minor faults though and I would definitely recomend this to anyone wanting to try a knife sharpening system. You would have to spend hundres more to get a better system than this!

One of the best I have ever used

They have thought about almost everything.
For 3 to five knives it is the best. If I’m doing more I will use my Grizzly wet stone.
This is great for finding the exact angle on any knife.

Just got this knife sharpening system and so far it seems to work great ! Just wish there was some more higher grit stones . You have to buy the upgrade kit for more than the system costs! But overall a good system

This a very precise and user friendly, well made sharpener I have many old fine high carbon steel knives and have NEVER been able to put such a razor sharp edge on them like I can with this. Great product and works great in conjunction with the work sharp belt sharpener to really fine tune your edge

I bought this knife sharpener sysyem i while ago and I never had a better system to sharpen than this until recently. When I bought my new bushcraft knife with a fixed blade of 6mm thick I noticed that the clamp couldn't handle blades of this thickness and thuss need a bigger or better clamp.
Can you please do something about it? People demand more from their knives nowadays, so they have to be sturdier and thicker, but users also want to be able to sharpen them when they become dull. With the precision sharpener this is an easy job if the clamp can also hold it.

I have had my sharpener for sometime now. I have NEVER found a better way to sharpen every knife I own. And I own Many many knives. I am so very impressed with the system. I unfortunately need to get new stones and a more aggressive stone for my knifes. I have used it so many times. It's no longer any abrasives left on the 2 sides. I began making my own knives and found the Damascus blades are very hard to sharpen. But I will NEVER use a different sharpening system again.

Purchased this to keep all my knives sharp. I have an issue with blade clamp; due to a medical issue I can't get knivees clamped down enough to keep them from moving at exreme ends of knife blade. I'd suggest a larger wheel for better clamping, also the base is too light and needs a method to attach the base to a board, a vice, or a work bench. My sharpening has provided good results but other Work Sharp units are easier to use.

This is changing my life. I'm still learning the finesse, but I've already RE-EDGED a few kitchen knives within the first day with the 320/600/ceramic tri-abrasive! (My knives were in really, Really, REALLY rough shape.) If I could make one suggestion, it would be to offer a tri-rod abrasive set as an accessory for deep recurves like a karambit. I see that a ceramic hone rod is available and I will be purchasing it in the future, but something like the 320/600/ceramic in a rod format would be something I would buy a million times.

I was able to clamp down on a small pocket knife and get it razor sharp, soft touch with more passes. The only limitation I have is with the base being too small and unweighted. I saw there is another upgrade where this is addressed but would like to have a more weighted base for the original.

Ok have been using the precision upgraded system and I can only have good comments about it, although the Bench top a sharpening Base had a Crack at the point where the Knife clamp attaches, now I think is time for me to buy some Tri-Brasive sharpening stones replacement, kindly please let me know about availability.

FAQs

Is it easy to use for beginners?

Yes. The Precision Adjust was designed to be beginner friendly. The guided system holds the knife securely and lets you set a consistent sharpening angle, making it easy to achieve reliable results without any prior sharpening experience.

What should I know about setup and maintenance?

Setup is minimal — assemble the base, insert the abrasive rod, and clamp your knife according to the instructions. For maintenance, brush away metal filings from the abrasives after use and store in a dry place to prevent corrosion. Abrasives wear over time and can be replaced to keep the sharpener performing at its best.

Is it better than other systems like Lansky, Horl, or whetstones?

The Precision Adjust delivers more consistent results with less skill required than freehand whetstones, and without the learning curve of some clamp-style systems. Unlike manual wheel-based sharpeners such as Horl, it provides adjustable angles and multiple abrasive grits in one setup. Which system is best depends on your sharpening style, blade types, and preferred level of control.

What makes this different from the other Precision Adjust models?

The original Precision Adjust suits casual users wanting consistent, guided sharpening with a simple three-abrasive setup. The Elite adds seven abrasives, a leather strop, and a carry case for enthusiasts. The Professional features larger abrasives and a fully metal base and clamp for serious users. The Professional Elite combines the all-metal build with the full Elite abrasive kit including resin-bonded diamond plates, for maximum range and longevity.

Do I need to use oil or water?

No. This sharpener is designed to be used dry. Oil can cause oxidation or rust. If water is introduced, dry the sharpener as quickly as possible to avoid damage.

How do you bench mount the PAJ?

On the bottom of the base, directly under the Work Sharp logo, there are oval ribs you can lightly clamp over. Do not clamp too hard — over-clamping risks breaking the base. Clamping the system down is generally not recommended since the knife is already held rigidly in the sharpener, and bumping it could potentially cause harm.

How long do the abrasives last on the PAJ?

It varies depending on blade condition, steel type, size, and pressure used. In testing, approximately 200–300 sharpenings per set is typical. All abrasives are removable and replaceable, so the sharpener itself won't wear out.

What is the correct motion for sharpening? Is it side-to-side or up and down?

Any motion works — side-to-side, up and down, or a combination. The preference is individual and all methods will produce great results.

How do I unsnap the PAJ from the base?

The connection is a firm snap fit. Push the tab at the rear of the base to release it.

What angles does the PAJ sharpen?

The PAJ sharpens from 15° to 30° in 1° increments.

How should I revitalise the leather on the strop?

A petroleum-based product works best for conditioning the leather strop.
