I was looking for a compact, user-friendly sharpener for full-time RV life where space is limited, and this fits the bill. I've had dozens of sharpeners over the years, and this has to be one of the easiest sharpeners for maintaining angle while sharpening my knives. I quickly worked through my dulling kitchen knives (20 degrees) and a few pocket knives (15 degrees) with ease, leaving them razor sharp. I love this thing and am ready to purchase some as gifts for my kids. If this went missing, I would definitely replace it.

I love this sharpener—it’s compact, easy to use, and incredibly versatile. I originally bought the Spyderco Triangle Sharpener, but every time I tried to use it, I ended up dulling my knives, likely because the angles didn’t match my knives’ bevels. Thankfully, the Angle Set Knife Sharpener offers four angle options instead of just two. I’ve found the 17.5° angle works perfectly for many of my knives.

Another great feature is the attachment for sharpening serrations, which is super handy. When I need something more aggressive, I use their pocket sharpener with the diamond rod—it’s a perfect combo for tougher jobs.

I have been using this sharpener for several years. I love it. So simple to set up and use but works very well. Especially nice is the ability to get the exact angles that I like for each knife. Even does my delicate kitchen knives to a 15-degree angle.

Love this thing! Get a sharp edge with no messing around. I love Spyderco knives but the triangle sharpener is hard to work with in my opinion. To much messing around to get a sharp edge, and less options for angles

The design of the sharpener makes it easy to sharpen all shapes of knife blades. The adjustable angles of the sharpening media makes it easier to hold the blade at the correct angle, but it still relies on a visual accuracy to hold the proper angle as opposed to a mechanical way to hold the preferred angle. The three different grit surfaces allows for honing a very sharp edge, even with a stainless steel blade.

I own most of all the different sharpening systems work sharp makes. I keep my small portable sharpners in my edc and knife cases my larger and motorized are in my craft area, garage and home shop. I love work sharp especially Ken onion versions! I have 2 motorized Ken onions mk1-2 and the pro sharpener and this is great for my crafting, kitchen and quick angle adjustments. If I had more money I’d buy more sharpeners.

This is a great sharpener!

Very effective sharpener, easy to learn and use. I've been ruining my quality kitchen knives for years with a pull-through sharpener and after replacing them with excellent quality German steel knives I spoke with a knife expert about how to maintain them without damage. He uses this unit so I took his advise and am happy with the results! Considering the cost of good knives this product is relatively inexpensive.

I have several of Work Sharp's tool and knife sharpeners and I use them to sharpen various tools and knives, depending on the type or style of tool or knife. I use the Ken Onion Angle Set Knife Sharpener to sharpen long, narrow knives, such as, fillet and other similar carving knives as I find that the ability to adjust the angle and the designed length of the sharpening stones enables me to achieve a very sharp edge easily and with little effort. I also use this particular sharpener also to sharpen small bladed paring knives.

I feel that the Work Sharp company produces high quality and well-designed products that perform as advertised and they market them at a reasonable price. I have been very pleased with all of their products that I have purchased so far and will continue to remain a customer.

Great sharpener. Easy to use and to sharp razor sharp blade edge. There is only one thing that is a minor issue when blade goes to the bottom part it hits front of the case. I’m thinking about putting something there or my box will have cut marks sooner or later eventually. Maybe I’ll get used to it and omit that area, but stones end up at the very bottom of sharpener. But anyway it is a great purchase and this construction is far better than other producers made so far with wobbly rods.

This sharpener really works. Very easy to maintain the correct angle because the sharpening rods are attached at the top. When they are free at the top, different amounts of pressure when sharpening, will result in slight differences in the sharpening angle. You don't have that problem with the KO Angle Set unit. Also you have more angle choices with this setup.

Great sharpener. Not for reprofiling a badly damaged blade. But gets the job done. The ceramic stone on one side of mine cracked within a couple of uses, still works fine, was just surprised.

The set-up for this sharpener is very simple, as is selecting the angle which you require.

The stones rotate for ease of selection.

Hold your blade vertically and use light pressure as you slide the blade down the stone. Start at the knife heel and work your way to the tip as you slide it down the stone. Go slowly at first to get the feel. It soon becomes very instinctive and easy to sharpen.

i have only used the sharpener on straight edges (no serrations). i have sharpened everything from pocket knives to large kitchen chef's knives. This product works effectively on all sized knives.

I recommend this sharpener to anyone who would use this at home or at a camp site. The item is too large to carry while on hikes or backpacking.

As idiot-proof as it gets.
+ No tip rounding like on the motorized sharpeners.
+ Easily portable unit (great for camp or vehicle).
+ Grits are effective and extreme - Coarse is very coarse - Fine is very fine.
+ Abrasive pads are nice and thick.
+ Best Axe/Tool sharpener I have ever used.
- Would like to see a small bubble level installed in the base.
- No diamond cone for repairing serrations (only ceramic)
- Case is a bit flimsy.
- Abrasive pads are narrow (good for recurve blades I guess).

I love this sharpener! It is quick and easy to use. I especially was impressed with how easy it was to sharpen my single bevel traditional broadheads! The optional angles make it versatile for many sharpening applications.

I used this all last fall while processing deer and it was great to have it on my butcher bench. I hunt all over and this is a great camp sharpener

Greatest sharpening tools on the market. By far!

This replaced my Spyderco Sharpmaker as my go-to sharpener. This is the sharpener I use most often, though my Ken Onion belt sharpener is the best I’ve I own. This requires no power and is portable. Most of the time this sharpen lives on my workbench at home, but is portable enough to be taken anywhere. I use a glove for the hand not holding the knife, but this is due to old habits from the sharp maker and me wanting to put my hand in a no no place. Would and have recommended this to several folks and have always been thanked for the recommendation. Definitely worth the $50ish bucks!

It is a great design that does breakdown into a small footprint which could easily fit into a drawer. The Ken Onion belt sharper is my go to for doing large numbers. But the simplicity of this setup, small size in case and not needing power makes it an amazing sharper for the kitchen or shop. The selection of angles does add benefit also and easy to make your knives extremely sharp.

I have had this product for a few months now and I have used it quite a bit. I find this to be an exceptional product (like everything else from Work Sharp). I really like the simplicity of the system and how well it works. The only issue I really have with the product is how the lid fits together. The clips that hold it in place allow the lid sections to become misaligned when carried in a pack. That being said, the functionality of this product is not negatively affected by this at all. I would like to see a more robust system on the lid in the future, but I am overall very pleased with the product. You will not be disappointed with it!

LOVE this. I went through and sharpened all my knives when I returned from a hunt. They are super sharp again. The design of the sharpener, with the adjustable angles of the rods, is amazing. I would recommend this for anyone who uses a lot of knives.

After many uses with outdoor and kitchen knives, I’ll say this thing delivers a brand new approach to benchtop sharpeners. To compare apples with apples in the “just hold the blade vertically and the sharpener will do the rest” category, I’ve used Spyderco’s Triangle Sharpmaker for years. I’ve also used the not-for-sale Cutco ceramic rod sharpener of similar design. This Work Sharp model is different and arguably better because it’s elements form a rigid non-flexible A-shaped frame that stays true-to-angle under pressure. The others mentioned above use a V-shaped design that allows the rods to “lean” outward as you draw the blade along them. This introduces a degree of “slop” in the grinding process that allows the angle of the grind to wander ever more obtusely. So, points to WS for making a manual sharpener that stays rigidly fixed to an angle of the user’s choice. (The other designs really only have 1 useable angle - 20 degrees.) Because this sharpener’s ceramic stone is pretty fine, I find it best to start with the coarser diamond surface and apply 10 passes on one side of the edge to see if I’ve created a wire. Use gentle pressure and let the diamonds do the work. Once I feel a wire, I’ll grind the opposing side until the wire leans the other way. Move to the fine diamond and repeat. Then I’ll alternate sides with passes on the ceramic. This leaves the edge with a polished, hair-popping hone that is visibly flat and true-to-angle. Side-by-side, this sharpener works more quickly than Spyderco’s version (by virtue of diamonds) and achieves a far more accurate angle to the grind. Plus, the adjustable angle mates well with everything from Cutco’s 15 degree grind to a machete’s 25 degree. The only thing keeping this sharpener from being a stand-alone device for accurately re-grinding edges to any desired angle is a truly coarse diamond surface. The coarsest grit surface can be described as “medium” and does well with starting the honing process. However, if you set out to completely re-set an edge to a different angle, it would take more than an hour of tedious passes. Perhaps WS could come up with a separate super-coarse diamond attachment for such a purpose. To tackle that re-grinding job myself, I resort to using WS’s motorized sharpener with a coarse belt. However, if you’re on the fence between Spyderco and WS for a manual benchtop honing system, I think WS has achieved a better system for less money.

I've had this sharpener for a while now and been waiting to review it. I've had several sharpening sets in the past which have led to inconsistent edges. Because many of them have a V pattern to them, they aren't supported at the top like this one is. This sharpener is easy to get a consistent edge on very quickly. It's perfect for keeping near the kitchen to put a nice edge back on the knives without having to break out the powered one. I brought the sharpener to my work in the oil field for demo and the response has been great. Everyone seems to say the same thing, surprisingly sturdy, easy to maintain the angle and sharpens quickly.

Very well built and fairly sturdy. I also like how it is compact and comes in it's own carrying case. I sharpened my every day care knives and I was able to shave hair. Great product by worksharp!

Middle of the hunt and 3 of our hunters and one of our guides has managed to ruin the edge on their knives on one animal. With ease I was able to not only gain back an edge but easily changed to the correct angles for each knife, putting them back to a sharp flawless clean edge.

Conclusion

My final assessment is that the Angle Set is a very innovative, well built, and versatile “in between” sharpener—and a terrific bargain to boot. What I mean by “in between” is that, even with the heavy diamond emphasis, it will of course never be as fast and effective for bevel setting or edge repairs as something like the Work Sharp Ken Onion powered system. And on the other end of the spectrum, as presently constituted, it can’t beat the Sharpmaker for touch ups and edge refinement due to the lack of a medium grit ceramic.

But what it can do is be a heckuva all round kit to take on camping, hunting, or fishing trips, or when you go visit friends and family who would appreciate a quick “in home” sharpening of their kitchen knives. The diamonds will give you the ability to modestly rehab any neglected and abused blades, and if you end up giving them a toothy but decently sharp edge, non-knife folks will likely be happy campers.

In addition, thanks to the easy store-ability and bargain price, the Angle Set would be a very handy item to have in your kitchen, fast and easy to grab and use either when the ceramic is sufficient or if you don’t mind a little diamond toothiness.

I haven’t had the Angle Set very long, and it may be that as I use it and get to know it better, my thoughts will evolve. But I’ve already seen enough to know it’s another innovative and high quality product from Work Sharp, and I bet they sell a boatload of them.

Finally, I think I should answer this question: Would I buy the Angle Set? While it doesn’t replace the Sharpmaker for my personal needs, it’s a different critter with its own advantages. Moreover, the Angle Set is so innovative, so well made, so versatile, and such a screaming bargain, that I wouldn’t be able to resist adding it to my sharpening arsenal. So, in a word, yes!
